Lattice Materials achieves ISO 9001:2008 Certification

The Quality Management System (QMS) of Lattice Materials, LLC has achieved ISO 9001:2008 certification!

We are very proud of this achievement and will live up to the reputation that this registration has given us. We strive to deliver only the highest level of satisfaction and will continue to earn your trust with every transaction. The ISO 9001:2008 Certification specifically means that we have implemented the following changes in our quality system:
  • The quality policy is a formal statement from Lattice Materials management that's closely linked to the business and to customer needs. Our quality policy and procedures are understood and followed at all levels, by all employees.
  • Decisions about the quality system are made based on recorded information and the system is regularly audited and evaluated for conformance to the standard as well as effectiveness.
  • Records show how and where our materials were processed, to allow problems to be traced back to the source.
  • We work with our customers to determine their requirements and create systems for communicating product information, responding to inquiries, orders, feedback and complaints.
  • When developing new products, we plan each of the stages of development, with appropriate testing at each stage. We test and document whether the product meets design requirements, regulatory requirements and customer needs.
  • We regularly review performance through internal audits and meetings. This determines whether the quality system is working and what improvements can be made. We deal with past and potential problems, keep records of these activities and resulting decisions, and monitor their effectiveness.
  • We have documented procedures for dealing with actual and potential nonconformances (problems involving suppliers or customers, as well as internal problems). We ensure that no employee uses bad product, determine what to do with any bad product, deal with the root cause of the problem and keep records to use as a tool to improve the system.
At Lattice Materials LLC, we believe in quality and make it a priority for each and every customer. Give us a try and see the difference it will make for you.

Semiconductor Support

The world of semiconductor manufacturing constantly pushes the boundaries of what's possible. Ever-increasing demands for higher purity wafers and smaller feature size drive a need for engineered support components made from silicon or germanium.

Lattice Materials's 20+ years of silicon and germanium machining experience puts the company in a unique position to support these demanding specifications.

Lattice has both mono and polycrystalline material, and can machine parts up to 15 inches diameter. The company can also work with linear part lengths up to 18 inches or more, depending on the overall geometry.

Lattice Materials can make large diameter rings, complex comb shapes, or any other specialized geometry required in the wafer production process. They can provide a polished or etched finish for the most demanding clean room requirements.

Seeds for CZ Crystal Growth

Lattice Materials can machine seeds for CZ crystal growth in either round, square or even tapered shapes, and etch them for stress relief. The company machines the seeds for our its internal growth department, so so they have the expertise to do it right.

Thin Film Coating Sources

Thin film coating involves depositing precise layers of specialty materials in energized vacuum environments. These environments demand certified, high purity materials for repeatable results.

Lattice Materials guarantees the customer that the sources it supplies will produce the repeatable results you require.

The company creates round and rectangular sputtering targets, conical evaporation sources, and complex machined target shapes.

Round targets

Round sputtering targets have been a standard Lattice Materials product for many years. The company has several sizes in stock and ready for shipment. They can also produce targets with holes or specialized shapes where required. The company stocks all of the standard sizes ready for immediate delivery.

Rectangles & other complex shapes

Single and multiple tiles, butt joints and beveled joints, conical evaporation sources are all within Lattice Materials's field of expertise.

Laser Mirrors

Mirror applications are as stringent as IR optics and silicon purity and consistency is critical for lot-to-lot repeatability. Lattice Materials has over 20 years of specialization in silicon and guarantees that the parts they supply will meet the project specifications.

The company supplies high volumes of round blanks as well as CNC machined blanks for beam steering systems. Machining complex shapes to precise tolerances, including secondary chamfers where required are also available.

A unique mirror-like edge finish on all our blanks results in a cleaner final coating process and improved yields for the optical finisher. This finish, along with world-class machining services, produces the finest quality mirror blanks.

Infrared Optics

In the area of Infrared (IR) optics, a constant balancing of resistivity and optical transmission is paramount to project success. Lattice Materials has developed proprietary and repeatable techniques for custom resistivity and optical transmission. The company grows crystals in-house, custom to each application if required.

Silicon and Germanium are materials of choice as optical elements in a variety of infrared applications from night vision to thermal imaging systems. Working with these materials is a specialty, due to their brittleness and the complex interplay of resistivity, transmission, and other optical properties.

Lattice has had over 20 years of success in working with just these two materials. From crystal growth to finished blanks, Lattice Materials has the most experience in the industry.

Welcome to Lattice Materials' Blog!

Lattice Materials is a privately held company based in Bozeman, Montana, USA that manufactures silicon and germanium infrared lenses, blanks, windows and special machined parts as well as laser mirrors and thin film coating sources. The company was founded in 1989 and has grown to include a worldwide sales force as well as approximately 50 employees at its headquarters.

History

Lattice Materials was started in 1989 when two enterprising engineers moved to Bozeman, Montana, to start a business machining high purity silicon. The original building was an abandoned utility company workshop, and the first task was clearing out piles of garbage, patching holes in the ceiling, and boarding over broken windows until they could be properly replaced.

A few months later the first machined parts were hand delivered to the customer for their inspection and acceptance. We still make silicon parts for the same customer, and have helped them to grow and expand their business for nearly twenty years.

In the early 1990s Lattice expanded rapidly to meet the growing demand for silicon and germanium infrared optics for the first Gulf War. We added polishing capability, curve generation, and expanded our production capacity to keep pace with the growing infrared optics industry. Lattice began making thin film coating sources for semiconductor applications, data storage media, and optical coatings. We also started growing ingots using small crystal pullers and filled a niche supplying oddly specified silicon, which has since proven to be one of our most valuable capabilities.

Throughout the 1990s Lattice added equipment and innovative manufacturing processes to meet new market demands, such as semiconductor manufacturing support and novel applications for laser mirrors. We’ve shipped hundreds of thousands of laser mirrors that are used in all aspects of manufacturing: the date code on the bottom of every box of cereal, for example, was printed using a silicon laser mirror.

In the late 1990s Lattice installed large scale crystal pullers and hired an experienced engineer from the semiconductor industry, and now our growth team has over 40 years combined growth experience. Our specialty is growing ingots with tightly specified parameters; the type of ingots that no other crystal grower wants to try to grow.

Over the last decade Lattice has kept pace with the growing infrared optics industry. Our components are placed in nearly every conceivable infrared optical application – military weapons systems, security and safety cameras used by police and fire departments, laser mirrors used in surgical equipment, safety equipment for underground mining operations, and our parts fly into space on satellites.

Lattice Materials is still in the same building, but has remodeled and added manufacturing capabilities that nobody dreamed of over 20 years ago. Lattice Materials is the industry leader in machining precision silicon and germanium.
